The Economic Value

  • Zero cost software, or cheap software anyways;
    end of proprietary licenses;
    the source code is available.

  • Zero cost hardware (when you find it in your basement), or cheap hardware anyways.
Effects of economic freedom:
  • It doesn't discriminate according to wealth; it sets up some kind of meritocracy;
  • Didactic choices are not driven by economic issues anymore;
  • School executives and teachers are free to choose their tools independently from the power centers;
  • Executives and teachers are relieved from the bureaucratic duties in purchasing equipment;
  • Students can get software with no extra burdens for their families.

Source code is delivered free of charge, but users pay for services based on the product (helping the local market).
